An axe may be used to fell trees. When Captain Nebevay locks the Talisman of the Balance in a chest in the hold of The White Dragon, April tries to use the axe to knock the lock off; unfortunately, she instead puts a hole in the hull of the ship at exactly the wrong moment, when the Chaos Storm strikes.

Dreamfall

When Zoe needs to break into the Victory Hotel basement, she manages to retrieve the axe hanging in the backyard shed. Getting past this point requires some dogged sneaking.

Zoe can chop through the boards across the basement window, but then the axe blade breaks off (clearly 23rd century axes are vastly inferior). She can then use the handle to make a primitive torch, allowing her to explore the basement.
