Corescent
From TLJwiki
AKA "the Pearl of Fire"
TLJ
There is only one reference to the city of Corescent in TLJ. in Travels in the Northlands Jemein the Discoverer refers it as "the Pearl of Fire", and recalls looking upon it as the sun set "in the Ocean beyond". The capitalisation of the word "Ocean" is probably a short-hand way of referring to the Great Ocean, so it must lie on the south coast of the Northlands. The reference to the sun setting in the ocean beyond means that its bay must face west (unless Arcadia is significantly different to Stark).
However, its epithet "Pearl of Fire" is similar to the Bay of Fire far east of Ayrede, and the name Corescent is quite similar to that of Corasan. This may mean that the city of Corescent is home to the Bay of Fire in the east of Corasan. "Pearl of Fire" is also reminiscent of Marcuria's description as "Jewel of the Northlands" and, indeed, Gorimon as "Jewel of the Bakshevan Empire. This may indicate that it is Corasan's capital.
Dreamfall
Corescent is mentioned twice in Dreamfall. Brian Westhouse escaped the Tyren invasion of Marcuria on a ship bound for Corescent before continuing east to Irhad. The second reference is by a Marcurian pedestrian, who comments that they have heard Corescent is negotiating with the Azadi for a treaty. "If that happens, there might finally be peace in the Northlands." If the modern definition of 'Northlands' is being used, it can be understood that Corescent is in the state of Corasan. However, this is not necessarily the case. Especially as it is more likely that a parent state would be performing diplomatic negotiations than that a city would.
On the surface it appears that Corasan the state and Corescent the city of TLJ have switched roles, and become Corasan the city and Corescent the state of DF. There are, however, several alternative explanations. Firstly, that Corasan the state at some point had as its capital a city also called Corasan. This certainly jibes well with other descriptions of it in DF, as well as in TLJ. In this case it is possible that Corescent is another city within the state, perhaps home to the Bay of Fire in the east. In this scenario, Corescent may have become the capital in the 10 years between TLJ and DF, which is why political petitioning is directed there. Alternatively, Corasan and Corescent may each be independent city-states.
